Mission

The mission and passion for the Greensprouts Foundation is simple. We believe in kids. We believe kids can learn. We believe kids can lead. Our mission is to provide kid-friendly resources to our schools, lending ideas and dollars to help kids live healthier lives in healthier environments. Our commitment is to helping schools help kids who will lead their generation into a more promising ecological future. There is simply no limit to what they can and will accomplish.

The work of the Greensprouts Foundation began in the summer of 2008. The Foundation was created to address areas of green education and sustainability that have been overlooked in children’s schools. In fact, our schools and our youth provide us with a great opportunity to do the right thing for many of the right reasons. It is critical that we as a community provide educational opportunities that support their willingness and their readiness to care for the planet we all share.

Our staff at the Foundation works solely on a volunteer basis. Our overhead is  low; less than 10 percent our budget goes to operating expenses. The money we raise directly supports our four local school districts (Aspen, RE-1, RE-2, and the Gunnison Water Shed) in the Roaring Fork Valley.  The Foundation is in the process of expanding our staff to address our growth in the areas of community development, fundraising, marketing and grant writing. In addition, we will have a diverse community Advisory Board in place by the fall of 2010.

A key mission objective of the Greensprouts Foundation is to strengthen collaborations among other for-profit and non-profit entities, (SEE OUR PARTNERS)

These partnerships are, in fact, an integral part of the overall success of our organization.  We are committed to strengthening the relationships with our current partners and continue to look for new and creative opportunities for collaboration with organizations interested in supporting green education.
